Welcome to
BBC Xtra English.
Today Anna and Rasha talk about Australian fathers.
A study by the University of New South Wales in Australia says that Australian fathers spend just over one minute a day with their children during the working week.
The author of the study said that Australian fathers like to play and have fun with their children, but they don’t really like the routine of childcare!
Even though some parents prefer the more enjoyable side of parenting, the report says that Australian fathers tend to shy away from the drudgery of the daily routine.
The report also said that Australian men view parenting and childcare as a leisure activity or a hobby.
However, Australian men do work longer hours than their counterparts in America, Denmark, France and Italy.
The study might upset some fathers in Australia as it re-enforces stereotypical views of Australian men as macho individuals and of Australia as a bastion of male chauvinism.

I think that childcare is parents job. Both of them should take care of their children.

I think childcare is very important and it is not specialised for only mothers. The fathers play a big role in childcare. The childcare is not a hobby.
