The World Health Organisation has launched an action plan to improve treatment for mental health illnesses. The plan will also make treatment more widely available.
According to the WHO, many people who have mental health issues feel stigmatised and do not wish to ask for treatment.
They feel embarrassed and do not want people to know about their problems.
And because mental health problems are not as obvious as physical illnesses, people just suffer in silence.
The reaction of people when asked about their mental health is usually to walk away and not to talk about it.
Our reporter, Val, conducted a survey in London. Many people said that they don't talk about that sort of thing.
Almost one in four of the world's population have suffered or will suffer from mental health problems.
The WHO wants governments to scale-up their spending on mental health. This is because many governments spend less than 1% of their health budgets on mental health issues.
