Welcome to
BBC Xtra English.
Today Liliane and John are talking about the millions of children in the UK who are living
on the brink of
poverty.
A new report by the The Campaign to End Poverty says that 5.5 million children are in families that are classed as struggling.
The report classes households as being in poverty if they are living under £10 per person per day.
The Chair of the Campaign to End Poverty, Martin Narey, said that he was very concerned that children will be cold and badly fed this winter due to rising food, gas and electricity prices.
He said that it was important to act now to avoid such hardship.
A BBC news team meet a family who live in Birmingham in central England and exist on income support and other state benefits.
The governments says it has already lifted over half a million children out of poverty and aims to eradicate it by 2020.
