Welcome to
BBC Xtra English.
Today Liliane and Anna are talking about why the world has an interest in protecting birds.
Yes, the world seems to have gone bird crazy!
Well, that's what you'd think if you'd been following the Bird Life Conservation Conference which has just ended in Buenos Aires.
A long list of countries took part because they are very concerned at the state of biodiversity and bird habitats around the world.
The conference was organised by Bird Life International - the world's largest network of bird and nature conservation organisations, and it is the leading authority on the state of the world's birds.
Birds are good indicators of how healthy our environment is because they are the best studied of all the animal groups.
The bad news from the conference is that land set aside for biofuels is destroying irreplaceable habitats.
The good news is that some birds thought to be extinct are now off the endangered species list.
Do you have any comments the story? What birds are endangered where you live? Write to us in English.
