Today Doug and Somaya are talking about the American
cyclist, Lance Armstrong.
We hear sports commentary from 1999 when Armstrong won the
Tour de France in Paris. The commentator described his win as a
comeback and a
miraculous performance.
This is because Armstrong was world champion aged 21 years old but was cut down in his prime by cancer.
Doctors said that had only a 50 percent chance of living but he survived. He continued to be a champion cyclist and won the Tour de France 7 times. He retired from cycling in 2005.
But he has recently announced on his website that he has decided to return to professional cycling. He wants to win an 8th Tour de France!
He also wants to launch an international cancer strategy to raise awareness of the global cancer burden.
We'd like to hear from you about this subject.
