Today Liliane and John are talking about problems with traffic.

Like many cities in the world, Manhattan has a problem with traffic.

So they have just had a No Car Day. A busy street in the centre of the city was open to pedestrians and cyclists only. No cars were allowed on the street at all.

People enjoyed walking, running and cycling down the street. One cyclist said, "It's really cool!"

With the street free of traffic there were activities such as dance lessons.

They say that it was like a carnival.

Outside the car free area traffic was very heavy.

Often in Manhattan there is gridlock because of heavy traffic and so they are promoting cycling and walking. They are trying to get people to stop using their cars.

No car days have been a success in other cities, including London and Paris.
