قمامة

Welcome to BBC Xtra English.

Today Cath and Louay ask, could you live without creating waste?

Traditionally, in Britain, rubbish made from everyday things was simply thrown away in a bin and left for the local council to collect.

Britain has one of the poorest records for recycling in Europe.

This is beginning to change. Some people are now forced to recycle more, and throw away less.

With less waste produced, some rubbish collections are becoming fortnightly in Britain.

These changes have not been popular, and the less frequent collection of rubbish has caused some people misery.

In the Japanese town of Kamikatsu all rubbish collections have been stopped.

Kamikatsu is a zero waste city, one of only a few around the world. People there must wash what waste they do produce, take it to a zero waste centre, and sort it into 34 different recycling boxes.

This has not been popular in the town, but the the local mayor says people must take responsibility for their rubbish.

This is bucking the trend, as the amount of waste in most countries is rising, and there are not enough landfill sites to bury it. This is mainly a problem for wealthier countries, where people are used to door to door rubbish collection.

Is recycling everything possible or desirable? Write to us with your views.

I think its possible to recycle all kind of rubbish .but it need a great collaboration between local councils and people .

Ibrahim Khartoum - Sudan
Yes it is a good time to take our responsibility against waste roud us

Mohamed, Omdurman, Sudan
ya we can do that by separating each rubbish g for example paper in side and other etc.but when u have finished with somethings you throw it away but when there is nowhere left to throw it?...

Abdo, Aleppo
We can not repeat most of waste we produce in our daily lives, for example My family, consisting of seven people produce many waste as follows 1 - food waste such as food and husks and corrupt remnants of cooking and can make of such waste organic fertilizer or bait for the animals 2 - plastic wastes such as law and cans and bags and such waste can be collected and recycling 3 - wastes such as glass and broken dishes Alkas This also can recycling 4 - waste paper 5 - waste in the form of minerals such as the old machines or cans of Pepsi or tools used All these wastes can be collected and recycling but there is also Vivian can not recycling of used children like towels and some chemicals used and kept them small quantities Using this method we note that it could reduce the waste Goalkeepers by more than 90% Another way to reduce waste, such as reusing things example is that when we carry a bag to dissolve the market and thus reduce the waste plastic bags can also re-use cans and plastic containers such as cans of soda in keeping foods such as the imbalance and jam, rather than dump them

Bird, Saudi Arabia

Babiker, Sudan
i am happy because i will write to you. I live in one of the country is never take responsibility about rubbish ..there are rubbish and bin in the streets and any place that you wont to go and zero waste in any way .maybe the rubbish stay at landfill sites in five years believe me that is right .three years a go the local councle said people must use door to door for by recycling rubbish but this method dont successful because all the people in local council and the houses didn't work well.

Mohammed, Nyala, Sudan
In Sudan the collection of rubbish is the responsibility of the local council which send teams to collect the rubbish bins from the houses . There is no recycling ,simply they burn it at the landfill sites leaving a lot of rubbish unburnt for the flies to breed.

Saad, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
recycling Is desirable but is not possible for every thing . we can used waste for decor
