Welcome to
BBC Xtra English.
Today Sam and Kaz are talking about a new way to describe young people.
A teenager is a person who is not yet twenty years old. But now there is a new age group, a tweenager! That's a kid between the ages of 8 and 13 and they are in the news.
The British Children's Secretary wants schools and parents to do more for this age group.
A typical tweenager might think that children's shows are too "babyish". These kids are in a hurry to grow up.
When tweenagers leave primary school they are under pressure to be like their friends in secondary school. Girls especially feel that they need to wear fashionable clothes. (This is also the time when children try smoking.)
Is it time to recognise tweenagers as a separate age group?
Do you think that kids nowadays are growing up too fast?
هل تعتقد أن اطفال اليوم ينمون بسرعة شديدة؟
