Welcome to BBC Xtra English. Today Khalid and Cath answer your questions on the English language.
Zakaria has written to us from Pakistan. He wants to know the meaning of the phrase talk to the hand. وجه حديثك الى اليد
Cath explains that it means the person you are talking to isn't listening to you. It's as if you were talking to their hand, not their face. It's a very informal phrase and can be seen as rude.
Mena from Cairo wants to know about another idiomatic phrase, what goes around comes around.
التاريخ يكرر و يعيد نفسه This means that everything you do has an effect in life. If you do bad things, bad things can happen to you. It's a phrase that's often used in songs; Cath and Khalid listen to What goes around.. comes around by Justin Timbalake.
Another phrase that means the same is you reap what you sow. ستحصد ماتزرع
