The Beatles

Welcome to BBC Xtra English.

Today Finn and Liliane are talking about misheard lyrics

We all mishear song lyrics from time to time. Sometimes the results can be very strange. Like the commonly misheard line from the song 'Bad Moon Rising' by Creedence Clearwater Revival. The singer sings "there's a bad moon on the rise," a poetic phrase meaning bad luck is coming.

But lots of people think he's singing "there's a bathroom on the right." Which is practical, but not very poetic.

Of course you can look up lyrics on the internet, on one of the unofficial lyrics websites. But these lyrics are typed by music fans, and sometimes they mishear the lyrics themselves!

Maybe misheard lyrics will now be a thing of the past, because Yahoo has started the first site where you can find authorised lyrics available online, free of charge.

Sometimes misheard lyrics are more fun. Listen to today's programme and find out why English singer Paul Young isn't worried about meat, and the Beatles aren't giving directions to tourists in their song 'Paperback Writer'.

Tell us about lyrics that you've misheard. If the song is in Arabic, explain it to us in English.

There was one old song ( white rainbow while you were with me ) we don't know how it came to Bahrain? Nom its used as a song in the weddings. But they don't what its mean. They sing it in local accent.

I believe that lyrics written in the wrong must lead to a misunderstanding of the listener must also lead to known (outraging public taste) ..
