Welcome to BBC Xtra English.
Today Kaz and Khalid are answering your questions.
Mohammed in Qatar wants to know the difference between especially and specially.
Both words are adverbs, and have similar meanings when used in front of adjectives. For example "I found the explanation especially useful" has the same meaning as "I found the explanation specially useful".
The difference is when they are not used in front of adjectives. When "especially" is not used in front of an adjective it can mean "above all".
For example; "I love sport, especially football."
When "specially" is not used in front of an adjective, it is often to say something is done or made for a particular purpose.
For example; "I had my sunglasses specially designed for me."
Hamid in Sudan asked about the correct pronunciation of flow and flu. Listen to the programme to hear Kaz pronouncing them.
Flu is short for influenza.
Flow is used when talking about things like a flow of water, the flow of current, and a flow of people.
A nice expression to remember is go with the flow. Can you guess what it means?
Thanks for all your questions. Please keep writing in!
