اصطلاحات تليفزيونية

استوديو تلفزيون

من الضروري أن يتقن الصحفي العامل في مجال التلفزيون استعمال الإصطلاحات المستعملة في هذا المجال الصحفي و يدرك بالضبط ما تؤديه من معان.

الإصطلاحات الفنية هي لغة التواصل بين الصحفيين و الفنيين و حتى بين الصحفيين أنفسهم، و عدم التحكم فيها قد يخل بأداء الفريق و يؤثر بشكل سلبي على نتيجة العمل.

وفيما يلي قائمة بأهم الإصطلاحات المستعملة في التلفزيون:

ActiveX

A plug in ENPS which can allow access to other systems such as Viz graphics

BGAN

Broadband Global Area Network - Latest sat-phone system from Inmarsat. Allows Internet connections up to 256Kbps, Voice calls and ISDN data upto 64Kbps, all simultaneously. This will be how some Quicklink and VPoint material will be fed to Egton House. IFB and Co-Ord lines may be routed via BGAN links

Big Ted/ Big Viz

A BBC developed system that interfaces between ENPS and graphics (Viz), playout (IBIS) and prompter (Autoscript) systems

Bug (e.g. Live Bug)

رمز البث المباشر او الارشيف ..الخ

BNCS

A touch screen control system used for routing circuits and monitoring.

Break

An interlude between parts of the programme. Will include promos, interstitials but no commercial product

Coming up

تنويه إضافي في نشرة الاخبار، ياتي بعد الجزء الاول او الثاني او اكثر من النشرة.

CBIS

BBC wide system of booking lines which can also control routing. It can also generate an arrivals board.

CCA

Big technical control room at Television Centre, it houses Sat Ops.

Clean Feed (Cue, IFB, IRB, mix-minus)

1. Audio feed out to an OS. Contains programme audio minus the contributors voice.

2. Video feed of the output from the switcher without any graphical information and any special effects.

Co-ord line

A dedicated communications line (landline, mobile, ISDN etc) facilitating the set-up between an outside location and the studio gallery

Crews

1. A Location Camera Crew, usually a single camera operator

2. Gallery / studio staff

CSO (blue / green screen, chromakey)

Colour separation overlay used to place a contributor into a false background (often used in news inject studios)

CG Computer Graphics (Lower third caption, capgen, Cap, caption, Aston)

Curious Maps

Software for generating editable animated graphics of maps. Part of the VizRT software suite

D3

High Quality videotape format not often used now but many archive tapes are D3.

D5

Similar to D3 but effectively better quality

Dalet

A desk top editing system

Dirty feed / copy

An incoming video/audio feed which includes all graphical information and special effects from an outside source eg: a recording from another TV channel

Digibeta

High Quality videotape format, Digibeta can only be played from the multi format machine on the Hub

Downlink

Satellite receiver point

DTL (Down the line, Live 2-way, OS)

DSR-450

Sony full size professional camcorder used by some ATV crews

DV

DV is a tape format used by the small domestic cameras

DVCAM

Tape format used by Arabic TV crews as well as many others including those from BBC News working within the UK and Ireland. Available in both large and small cassette sizes.

DOG (Digitally Originated Graphic)

Edit decision List - editing without changing media just a series of instructions and pointers to the media

ELVIS

Electronic Visual Information System - ELVIS is a store of 130,000 pictures from the BBC Photograph Library and Stills Archive which you can view online and have delivered to your desktop. http://elvis.nca.bbc.co.uk/

ENPS

News Production System used throughout BBC

Float (FL)

Final Cut Pro (FCP)

A Mac based video edit system which can access and export to Dalet

Full Frame

جرافيك يشمل الشاشة كاملة

Gallery

Production Control Room including Sound and Lighting

GAN (also referred to as M4)

The predecessor to BGAN which allows ISDN calls and voice via satellite. IFB and Co-Ord lines may be routed via M4 links.

Grams (bed, bubble, vamp)

Thematic music which is used underneath a graphics or a coming-up visual sequence

Headline

عناوين النشرة، وتكون عادة على شكل OOV ويتراوح عددها بين ثلاثة وخمسة عناوين.. ويمكن ان تشتمل على SOT او Nat Sot

Hub

Media Hub - combines ingest with MCR

IBIS

The video playout software

Inmarsat

Commercial satellite communications provider. See BGAN and M4.

ISDN

Integrated Services Digital Network - Digital telephone system used for ad-hoc broadcast quality audio lines. Sometimes used for IFB, often using Inmarsat sat-phones

Inject Points

Network of street level fixed-lines at key locations across London allowing live contributions or tape feed via SCAR.

Ingest

The assimilation of all forms of material from all sources into the digital domain. Omneon Ingest ports pass material into Dalet ingest

Into Break Sting

Video and/or audio playout to separate programme from "commercial" break. FROM programme TO break.

IP (Internet protocol)

ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network)

A digital telephone system used for ad-hoc broadcast quality audio lines. It can be used to provide a clean feed, often using Inmarsat sat-phones. They are readily available in public buildings, stadia and TV operations centres

JUPITER

The asset management system used by BBC News. You can access and transfer News material from a PC with the Jupiter application on it.

Keyer

Effects unit that combines two video signals. Used for overlaying GFX or performing CSO effects. Can be part of a vision mixer or a standalone unit.

Location Facilities

Also known as FACS. Team of BBC News engineers that operate the London Sat-trucks and support location ops.

ME (bank)

Section of vision mixer used for effects (Mixer Effects)

Merlin Communications

World Service contractor that operates Bush House control room and SMDS

MOS Gateway

The link between the server and the running order (see below)

MOS Item

Media Object Server, the system used by ENPS to link scripts and running orders to media and events.

MPEG-2

Lossy Compression system used for incoming OS video links and transmission systems. Includes embedded compressed audio.

Naming Convention

To ensure correct working of the Dalet, Radioman and IBIS systems it is essential that there is an adhered to system of naming media.

NOC

Network Operations Centre - Bush House control room that is responsible for final transmission of Arabic TV

Nat Sot

Natural sound occurring on a piece of video or audio tape/disc

OOV (Out Of Vision) (in the American terminology LVO)

نص يقرأه المذيع دون ان يظهر على الشاشة، بينما يعرض شريط مصور يتناسب مع النص.

OS (Outside Source)

مصدر خارجي، عبر القمر الاصطناعي، عبر الهاتف، عبر الهاتف المصور.. الخ

Out of Break Sting

Video and/or audio playout to separate programme from "commercial" break. FROM break TO programme.

PAL

Phase Alternate Line - The UK standard of analogue TV. analogue TV.

PFL

Pre fader listen - allows the sound mixer to hear an audio source off-air

MOS

Item in ENPS that will hold media

Prompt(er)

It allows an in-vision presenter to see an enlarged line-by-line reproduction of a script which is unseen by the audience. ATV is using Autoscript not Autocue

PTB (Production talkback)

A system of communications links in a television or radio studio that enables directions to be given while a programme is being made. A director will talk on "open" talkback which is live to presenters and crew all the time. A producer normally works on "switched" so that they only communicate to one person /area at any one time

PTC (Piece To Camera) in the American terminology Stand upper

SLUG (story title)

A musical sting which normally places an "ending" onto a grams sequence

SX Betcam

Titles

Opening/closing animated sequence providing the programme with a means of identity

TBU

Telephone Balance Unit - used to interface telephones to broadcast kit, also known as TCBU

Timecode

Time reference code locked to a video signal carried on tape or embedded in a digital file.

TopCat

Web editing and publishing tool

TX

Transmission

UGC

User Generated Content - pics, videos from phones, email etc

Uplink

Satellite transmission point. Can be fixed, vehicle mounted or a flyway system

UPS

Uninterruptible Power Supply - for kit that needs a back up, Egton technical equipment is all on UPS

VizRT

Real-time 3D graphics system that drives all on-air graphics for ATV. Controlled via ENPS and BigViz

VJ (Video Journalist)

(يبحث الموضوع ويصوره ويكتب النص ويعلق بصوته ويقطع الصور الكترونيا ويرسل تقريره كاملا او شبه كامل الى المحطة)

vPoint

Video conferencing software used for low-bandwidth IP-video lives.

Vox pop

Vox populi literally means the voice of the people and refers to interviews with members of the 'general public'. Usually the interviewees are shown in public places, giving spontaneous opinions in a chance encounter. The results of such interviews can be unpredictable so the material is edited down very tightly. Trying to do them live can be impractical because of the question of balance and impartiality issues.
