Man found dead after house fire

An elderly man has been found dead in his smoke-filled house in West Cumbria.

Ronald Martin was found in his living room in Woodhouse Road, Whitehaven, by his step-daughter on Wednesday.

A fire had burnt itself out. Police said Mr Martin, 74, had been seen the previous day by relatives and they are not treating the death as suspicious.

Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service has launched an investigation into the cause of the fire which was no longer burning when officers arrived.
