Scottish Labour Party leader, Wendy Alexander, entered the Scottish Parliament in 1999 as MSP for Paisley North.
She served in government roles as part of her party's coalition with the Scottish Lib Dems.
Here, is a selection of the things she has said.
SECTION 28 (JANUARY 2000)
"We don't have legislation for how we deal with drugs in schools, for example, or how we deal with abortion - it's the responsibility of the local education authority and the teacher.
"I think what parents are looking for from the Scottish Executive is a guarantee that if in any circumstances there was inappropriate material, or inappropriate teacher behaviour, in those circumstances is the government going to act?
"That's been the case and will be the case."
DONALD DEWAR TRIBUTE (OCTOBER 2000)
"Donald Dewar was a Labour man through and through. Social justice was his creed, with Scotland always in his heart.
"I can put it no better than the woman in his Glasgow constituency who once said to me: 'The thing about Donald is that there is not a person in Scotland who doesn't know that when he sits down at his desk every morning, he has the best interests of Scotland at heart'.
"In every street he was just known as Donald. That says so much about the man and his beliefs.
"We loved him and we will all miss him terribly."
McCONNELL LEADERSHIP CONTEST (NOVEMBER 2001)
"After much heart-searching I have decided it would not be right for me to put my name forward.
"Labour is the only way forward for Scotland and whoever becomes first minister will have my support."
ALEXANDER RESIGNS FROM CABINET (MAY 2002)
"My enthusiasm for the parliament remains as strong as it was, over 20 years ago, when we campaigned together for its creation.
"It is an honour to represent the people of Paisley North and I hope to win their support again at the election in 2003."
LEADERSHIP BID (AUGUST 2007)
"Iraq and cash for honours allegations played their part, but we would be fooling ourselves if we didn't recognise that we, in Scottish Labour, were also at fault in that defeat.
"The SNP didn't just win with slick presentational tricks. Nor did they win thanks to their manifesto.
"They won because they seized Labour's agenda of hope and aspiration. Well I'm here to tell you that we're going to seize it back."
ALEXANDER BECOMES LEADER (SEPTEMBER 2007)
"Losing hurts. To get there we must win back the trust of the Scottish people.
"And to win that trust, we must listen to them and show that we have listened to them by reforming our own party."
ILLEGAL DONATION (DECEMBER 2007)
"I have never sought to mislead. I am not dishonest in any way and I have always believed that politicians should have the highest standards of integrity.
"My campaign did not set out to intentionally mislead or break the rules. Mistakes have been made.
"It would be easy to quit, but also wrong. To give up this job in these circumstances would be also to give up my reputation for integrity and honesty and I am not prepared to do that."
ELECTORAL COMMISSION DECISION (FEBRUARY 2008)
"Personally this has been both a salutary, and bruising experience.
"Some of the coverage has hurt me and caused distress to many entirely innocent friends, my family and donors.
"I said that I would not walk away from the leadership of Labour in the Scottish Parliament.
"Let me add to that pledge. I will not walk away from my party, or the people of Scotland."
ALEXANDER DEFENDS HER POSITION (JANUARY 2008)
"Well, I've said a mistake was made.
"We've provided all the evidence to the Electoral Commission, and I'm confident that I will be exonerated of any wrong-doing.
"All political parties have had difficulties, and all political parties agreed that the Electoral Commission is the right body to look at this, they should do so, free from political or other pressure and I'm confident that as I say, I will be exonerated of any wrong doing.
