Firefighters tackle common fire
About 90 firefighters have spent more than 12 hours bringing a gorse fire at a Surrey common under control.

The blaze, which started at about 1000 BST, has severely damaged 40 hectares (99 acres) of undergrowth at Chobham Common, near Sunningdale.

Firefighters from Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire used 15 water jets to tackle the fire.

Motorist have been urged to avoid the roads surrounding the common until the blaze has been totally extinguished.

A Surrey Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said crews got the fire under control on Wednesday evening and were now damping down.
