Tool theft fuels burglary spate
Burglary generic
Police have urged homeowners to keep tools secure
Burglars have been breaking into homes using tools first stolen from the householders' sheds and garages in a spate of thefts in Berkshire.

Thames Valley Police said spades and shovels were used to break or force open windows and patio doors.

There were seven incidents in Sandhurst, Crowthorne and College Town between 19 November and 6 December.

Police have warned people to check tools are locked up and that garages and sheds have suitable locks.

John Oblein, crime reduction adviser for Bracknell Forest police, advised householders to secure tools and ladders with cables or chains.

He said: "This will give the burglar a harder time and may prevent your tools being used to break into your house.

"Far better to act before the burglary."
