Sabeel Ahmed admitted at the Old Bailey to withholding information

The brother of a man who died in a suicide car bomb attack on Glasgow Airport has been deported to India.

Sabeel Ahmed, 26, of Bangalore, India, pleaded guilty at London's Old Bailey last month to withholding information about the attack.

The doctor was given an 18-month sentence, but was freed for deportation because of time served on remand.

He admitted not disclosing to police an e-mail which his brother wrote about plans for the attack.

Sabeel Ahmed had opened the e-mail, in which his brother asked him to keep the information secret for as long as possible, after the incident had taken place.

'Exhausted'

Kafeel Ahmed, who had a PhD in engineering, drove a burning Cherokee Jeep into the terminal building at Glasgow Airport on 30 June last year.

He was arrested at the scene after being hosed down by an off-duty police officer - but he had already suffered 90% burns. He died in Glasgow Royal Infirmary on 2 August.

The AFP news agency said Sabeel Ahmed had returned home exhausted on Thursday after arriving in the southern city of Bangalore on a flight from London.

"He has gone to sleep," his mother Zakia Ahmed told AFP.

"He travelled the whole night without any sleep. He has gone through much stress, and I request all the press to go away and let him rest."
