Aircraft stranded by chicken pox

Passengers who arrived at East Midlands Airport on a flight from Italy were detained for about three hours following a health scare.

About 150 people on the Ryanair flight from Pisa were held in an airport building after it emerged a boy on board had chicken pox.

They were interviewed by Leicestershire Health Authority before being allowed to go through immigration and customs.

A subsequent flight using the aircraft was cancelled.

The plane, which landed just after 1800 GMT on Saturday, was being inspected by the health authority.
