A woman was punched, kicked and dragged to the ground in a "violent" sex attack at a West Yorkshire railway station.

The 21-year-old was waiting for a train at Wakefield's Kirkgate station when she was attacked at 2030 BST on Sunday.

Detectives have released a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to in connection with the attack.

The woman initially managed to escape but her attacker caught up with her and carried out the sexual assault.

Det Insp Dave Boldison, of British Transport Police, said: "This was an horrendous attack on a young woman and intensive police enquiries are currently ongoing to catch the man responsible.

"We are asking for the public's help in identifying the man in this CCTV image. Do you know him? Did you see someone matching his description in the area around Wakefield Kirkgate Railway Station on Sunday evening?"

The suspect is described as having an olive or dark European complexion.

He was of medium build, between 5ft 6in to 5ft 8in tall, with short or shaved dark hair an was wearing fawn-coloured trousers, a black or navy jumper and a brown jacket with a white band across the chest.

He was carrying a black rucksack and a large plastic bag.
