Man held after hit-and-run death

A man has been arrested after the death of a father-of-one in a hit-and-run incident in Wakefield.

Dean Dawson, 24, from York, died in hospital after being hit by a car outside the Elephant and Castle pub in Westgate in the early hours of Sunday.

The driver failed to stop at the scene, police said.

Officers recovered the vehicle they were searching for and a 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of motoring offences.

West Yorkshire Police said they were still appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
