Adam O'Toole was knocked down on a crossing
Police searching for the driver of a car involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident have released a description of a man they want to question.

Adam O'Toole, 18, of Holmfirth, was hit by a vehicle at a crossing on New Hey Road, in Salendine Nook, Huddersfield.

Detectives said the car involved was a blue Rover 200. Subsequent witnesses saw a Rover car with accident damage on the A640 near Nont Sarah's pub.

The driver is white, in his 20s with a thin face, big nose and unkempt hair.

Det Insp Jon Morgan said: "We know that a car matching the description of the car we want to trace was seen on the A640 by the Nont Sarah's pub travelling towards Denshaw.

"Witnesses also tell us that the car had accident damage.

"The man we want to trace is described as a white man, in his 20s, with a thin face, prominent nose and long dark brown unkempt hair.

We don't want anyone else to have to go through what we're going through

"We would ask anyone who recognises the description to contact police on 01484 436685 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

Mr O'Toole's parents told a news conference last Friday they had been left devastated by the accident.

His mother Beverley said: "Adam loved life and his main passions, after myself and his dad, were rugby union and his beautiful girlfriend Laura."

She said her son was due to start a sports studies course at university in September.

"We would urge anyone who knows anything about this to come forward, even if it's the smallest thing.

"No one can tell us why and we don't want anyone else to have to go through what we're going through," she said.
