Police have been given an extra 36 hours to question a man arrested over the murder of a 17-year-old boy during a suspected gang fight.

Robert Spence, of Burghfield Common, Berkshire, died on 2 May from stab wounds in Reading.

Thames Valley Police detained a 27-year-old man in Bristol on Wednesday and he remains in police custody.

A 30-year-old man who was also detained has been released without charge. Two men held last week were also released.

Robert, who was nicknamed Junior, was described as "a polite, hard working and helpful boy".

'Always smiling'

Police suspect Robert died following a street fight between two gangs.

A post-mortem examination revealed he suffered from a single stab wound to the heart.

Two other men were taken to hospital.

Robert's mother, Sandra Blake, described her son as a "hard-working boy, very helpful and always smiling".

Det Ch Insp Stan Gilmour, of Thames Valley Police, said: "I would still like to hear from anyone who was in Reading town centre between 0300 BST and 0400 BST on the morning of Friday, 2 May."
