One person killed as car crashes

One person has died and another was taken to hospital with serious injuries after a crash in Bedfordshire.

A car left the A421 road and burst into flames at Lidlington Turn near junction 13 of the M1, in the early hours.

One person died at the scene, a second was taken to hospital and a third ran away, a police spokesman said.

"A patrol was monitoring the car before the crash and the Independent Police Complaints Commission has been informed in line with protocol," he said.

The A421 road is closed between Marston Moretaine and the M1 and traffic is being diverted onto other routes.

Police said the road could be closed until late morning.
