Council 'could run post offices'

Post offices in Milton Keynes, which have been earmarked for closure, could be run by the council instead.

Milton Keynes Council is looking at ways to save the six branches which the Post Office plans to close.

One option being considered is to take over the running of the service itself and the council has set aside £30,000 to see if this is financially possible.

Any proposals will need to demonstrate the ability to provide premises and staff to manage the shops.

The council discussed the plans at a meeting on Monday night and will announce a decision in September.
