Two arrested at port after rape

Two men have been arrested by police investigating the rape of a 21-year-old woman in Bedfordshire.

The attack happened in the early hours of Bank Holiday Sunday on 25 May in an alley between Hartwell Crescent and Albany Road in Leighton Buzzard.

Police said the two men, both in their 20s, were arrested on suspicion of rape at Pembroke in Wales, after getting off a ferry from Ireland on Monday.

The men are to be interviewed at Dunstable police station.

Police are still trying to trace a white man in a heavy dark jacket who it is believed was in the alley at about 0315 BST and may have seen the offenders without realising what they had done.

After the offence the offenders walked the victim from Hartwell Crescent towards the Brooklands Drive/Stanbridge Road area.

Det Sgt Sandra Evans said: "Although there are significant developments in this case it is still extremely important we trace the man who was in the alley and anyone else who has information that might assist."
