Man injured in 'machete' attack

A man is in hospital with serious head injuries which police believe were caused by a machete.

Officers found the 20-year-old victim lying in Hetton Road, Houghton-le-Spring, on Friday night after reports of an assault.

He is being treated in hospital for serious head wounds and his condition is not known.

Northumbria Police have asked for anyone with information or who witnessed the attack to get in touch.
