Paralympic coach going for gold

Gary Brickley is preparing to travel to Beijing for next month's Paralympics

A doctor who is travelling to Beijing as a coach for the British Paralympic cycling team believes they could do even better than the GB Olympics team.

Gary Brickley, a senior sports science lecturer at the University of Brighton, in Sussex, has been working with one of the leading medal hopes, Darren Kenny.

Kenny, from Dorset, who is aiming for five golds in five events, has been coached by Dr Brickley for four years.

"It's not my success, its our success. I have total trust in Gary," he said.

"Every year you learn more and more about each other.

"I learn more about what he expects from me and he knows what I can do."

Four years ago in Athens, Kenny was a double paralympic gold medallist.

He has cerebral palsy following an accident.

The Paralympic team have adopted many of the Olympic team's ideas in terms of technology and kit.

They have also been inspired by their performance.

"To sit back and watch teammates and friends doing exceptionally well like that is a really, really good feeling," said Kenny.
