Police combat under-age drinking

Police are to take to the streets in Darlington this weekend to try to catch underage drinkers.

Officers will patrol the town picking up any young people under the influence of alcohol and calling their parents.

Over the last week officers seized 34 litres of alcohol and 58 people were stopped and warned by police.

In the town's Hartington Way, 30 youths were stopped for being drunk and alcohol seized. Letters were also sent to their parents.

The patrols are part of the Summer Nights campaign aimed at tackling alcohol misuse, launched by Darlington Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership (CDRP).
