Two charged over attack on farmer

Two teenagers have been charged over an attack in which a farmer was beaten with a piece of wood.

Police said the 70-year-old victim suffered cuts and bruises in the incident at Broom Hill Day Spa farm, near Ferryhill, on Sunday evening.

His elderly wife was also attacked when she tried to come to his aid.

Two men, aged 18 and 19, have been charged with affray and bailed to appear at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court on 27 August.
