Flood prevention scheme for town

A £3m flood prevention scheme has been unveiled for Darlington.

Northumbrian Water says the project will reduce the risk of flooding to 14 homes in the Pierremont Crescent area of the town.

The work, which will take up to 11 months to complete, will involve upgrading 650 metres of sewage pipe to cope with heavy rainfalls.

A company spokeswoman said the project was expected to begin in October of this year.

Parts of the town were hit by floods last June.
