Three injured in knife attacks

Three people are recovering from stab injuries after two unrelated assaults in the North East of England.

In the first incident a man suffered stab wounds to his front and back at Castletown men's club in Sunderland at 0115 BST. Three men were arrested.

Hours later a man and woman were found stabbed near Newcastle Central Station. One man has been arrested in connection with this incident.

Police said none of the victims had suffered life-threatening injuries.

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: "One man has received several stab wounds to his front and back."
