Sunder Meyyappan failed to return to Hollesley Bay open prison

An inmate who became the second burglar to abscond from an open prison in Suffolk in less than a week, has handed himself in to police.

Billy Swaley Smith, 20, walked into a Norwich police station after going missing from Hollesley Bay on Tuesday.

Another inmate, Sunder Meyyappan, 52, is still at large after failing to return to the prison on 20 June after being temporarily released.

Meyyappan, from north west London, is Asian, 6ft (1.83m) and of medium build.

Suffolk Police urged anyone who sees Meyyappan, who was serving a three-and-a-half year term for house burglary, not to approach him but to contact officers.
