New speed trap 'shames drivers'
The new mobile speed trap
The device has been sold to local authorities across the country
A device to warn drivers they are breaking the speed limit has been launched by a Warwickshire company.

The portable machine flashes messages to drivers such as well done if they are within the speed limit or slow down if they are not.

Peter Gay of Teletraffic said it had been designed to shame drivers into cutting their speed.

He said in trials carried out in the Warwickshire village of Ansty speeds dropped "dramatically".

Flash message

He added: "The way the device works is that as a vehicle approaches the speed is recorded by a radar which is transported back to the machine.

"A message flashes up which can say anything from well done, to slow down.

"The tool was developed for educational purposes for road safety rather than law enforcement.

"In trials in the village of Ansty in Warwickshire, speeds dropped dramatically to between 28 and 26 mph in a 30 mph zone."

He added that the aid has been sold to several local authorities around the country and he was always looking for ways to improve it.
