Local government questions

Plaid Cymru AM Simon Thomas expressed his disappointment that the hourly train service between Aberystwyth and Shrewsbury will not be in place until 2015.

He called on the local government and communities minister on 7 November 2012 to ensure that work is started now on the new stations in Bow Street and Carno to ensure that everything is in place for the openinig.

Kirsty Williams, AM for Brecon and Radnorshire, criticised the government's decision to buy buses which could not be fitted with seatbelts for the Newtown to Cardiff T4 route.

She explained that some of her constituents did not feel safe travelling the distance without the safety of seatbelts.

Delyn AM Sandy Mewis called for the electrification of the train line in north Wales.

Carl Sargeant AM stressed his commitment to pursuing the issue "with vigour" as he told AMs that he had already raised the mater with the UK government's transport minister.

The minister also answered questions on collaboration between Welsh local authorities, transport infrastructure in north Wales and financing public buses.
