Business statement

The leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats has called for an urgent statement by the Welsh government on rule changes to the True Taste of Wales Awards.

Kirsty Williams used a business statement by Leader of the House Jane Hutt on 15 May 2012 to highlight the concerns of rural food producers in Wales.

Ms Williams told AMs: "Changes to the way in which some of those categories are to be judged is causing concern amongst some businesses in rural areas who feel they are being put at an unfair footing compared to businesses in urban areas."

She went on to ask for a statement from the Deputy Minister for Food, Alun Davies, to outline the management of the awards and any changes that had been proposed.

Replying on behalf of the Welsh government, Ms Hutt said that Mr Davies would report back to the assembly on the matter.

Ms Hutt also answered questions from AMs on support for deaf services, local development plans and the Wales Ethnic Minority Association (AWEMA).
