First minister's questions

Welsh political leaders should unite against the introduction of regional pay in the public sector, Plaid Cymru's new leader told the chamber on 20 March 2012.

Leanne Wood AM invited First Minister Carwyn Jones and the leaders of the Welsh Conservatives and Liberal Democrats to oppose the proposal during her first appearance as her party's leader.

Ms Wood, elected Plaid leader on 15 March 2012 drew attention to EU figures which suggest the economy in poorer parts of Wales has fallen further behind the European average.

George Osborne would "exacerbate the situation even further" if he introduces regional pay deals in the public sector, she said.

The first minister agreed that regional pay would have a "detrimental effect on Wales" as he described it as "a ludicrous measure, ill-thought out, but typical of this government".

Mr Jones also answered questions on a variety of subjects including boosting capital investment, the devolution of energy policy and homelessness.
