Health and Social Services questions

The health minister refused to say how many health capital projects would be approved and started in this financial year on 9 November 2011.

Plaid Cymru Health Spokesperson Elin Jones AM pressed her on the subject as she voiced concerns that there had been no developments on health projects for Cardigan, Aberaeron and Tregaron.

According to a recent list of capital projects produced by the Welsh Government they are awaiting three business plans for the projects, but the Ceredigion AM warned that she was hearing a different message on the ground.

Liberal Democrat Kirsty Williams AM was also critical of the government for failing to deliver on the commitment they made before the election to build hospitals.

Health Minister Lesley Griffiths explained that business cases will have to be reviewed and looked at in light of service change plans.

She also answered questions on the future of specialist nurses in the NHS, care and assessments for the elderly and orthopaedic services in Wales.
