Annual EU fisheries negotiations debate 2

MSPs united to pass all the amendments and motion from the Annual EU fisheries negotiations, after the second part of the debate on 12 December 2012.

The very consensual debate was being held ahead of the much criticised annual EU fisheries talks which begin on 17 December 2012.

Rural Affairs and Environment Secretary Richard Lochhead said he would be heading to the negotiations with "Scotland speaking with one voice".

Mr Lochhead said fishing communities "would be biting their nails" as they waited to see the outcome of the negotiations.

He criticised the Common Fisheries Policy and said :"The cod recovery plan has turned into an altar at which our fishermen are sacrificed"

"It does not work in the mixed fish stocks we have in our seas"

"I will do my best to deliver success not for Brussels's lawyers but for Scotland's fishermen in these talks next week."
