Finance Committee 1

The Finance Committee took evidence from experts from the International Labour Organization in Geneva via video link on 26 September 2012.

Laura Brewer a specialist for skills for youth employment and Donna Koeltz a senior employment services specialist from the International Labour Organization (ILO) gave evidence to MSPs.

The ILO is the international organisation responsible for drawing up and overseeing international labour standards.

It is the only 'tripartite' United Nations agency that brings together representatives of governments, employers and workers to jointly shape policies and programmes promoting "Decent Work" for all.

The witnesses praised the work done by the committee on trying to improve employability, particularly focussing on youth unemployability.
