SNP MSP Colin Keir congratulated the Royal Highland Education Trust for their work in "taking the classroom to the countryside", during his member's debate on 6 June 2012.
Mr Keir called on MSPs to welcome the Royal Highland Education Trust's work to promote Scotland's rural and agricultural environment, farming and countryside activities and food education to Scotland's young people.
The Edinburgh Western MSP said: "The reality of Scotland's urbanisation has meant that many children have no direct link with the countryside."
He highlighted that the Scottish government had pledged £2m over three years to help children learn more about food, its impact on health and its impact on the environment.
In closing the debate Environment and Climate Change Minister Stewart Stevenson commended the "fantastic work" the trust was doing and wished it success in its goal of bringing 15,000 young people to farms or estates by 2015.
