Member's business: Local rail services

Scottish Conservative MSP John Lamont told MSPs extending and improving rail services to Berwickshire and East Lothian would be "money well spent".

The Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire MSP was leading a member's debate on the issue on 21 March 2012.

Mr Lamont said the the reopening of stations at Reston and East Linton would help communities "attract new families".

He commended the work of rail action group for the east of Scotland (RAGES) but said" unless this project has the backing of the SNP government it is going nowhere".

Transport Minister Keith Brown said Keith Brown said the real issue was about money with 30 different cases around Scotland for stations reopening.

Mr Brown said he would consider proposals for new stations where there were benefits to the local communities.
