Cabinet and ministerial appointments

MSPs voted unanimously to approve First Minister Alex Salmond's new choices for his cabinet including Alex Neil as infrastructure and capital investment Secretary and Bruce Crawford as parliamentary business and government strategy secretary, on 25th May 2011.

They then unanimously approved Mr Salmond's new additions to his ministerial team including Michael Matheson as public health minister; Aileen Campbell as local government and planning minister; Alasdair Allan as learning and skills minister; Brian Adam as chief whip and parliamentary business minister and Stewart Stevenson as environment and climate change minister.

MSPs also voted unanimously to approve his new Scottish law officers with Frank Mulholland as the new lord advocate and Lesley Thomson as the new solicitor general.

The parliament then voted for the SNP MSP Linda Fabiani, Scottish Liberal Democrat MSP Liam McArthur, Scottish Conservative MSP Mary Scanlon and Scottish Labour MSP David Stewart to join the Scottish parliamentary corporate body.

120 MSPs backed the nominations with one abstention.

Referring to the previous SNP administration and its achievements, the first minister told the chamber : "The record is of a team that has delivered and that is why the new Scottish Cabinet in particular continues with that continuity."
