Labour MSP John Park led a debate on asbestos related disease on 7 January 2010.
It came in the wake of a report from the National Centre for Asbestos-Related Diseases, which said the condition was the biggest single cause of work-related death - a problem which was on the rise and was expected to reach a peak by 2016.
Mesothelioma, caused by breathing in asbestos claimed 2,617 Scottish men's lives between 1981 and 2005, many of them shipyard workers.
Mr Park said that he hoped the issue would be taken forward with cross-party support.
