Pre-Budget report debate

Finance Secretary John Swinney told MSPs on 16 December 2009 that the UK government's pre-Budget report was damaging for Scotland and undermined efforts to help the economy recover.

He again criticised Chancellor Alistair Darling for not accelerating cash for projects to boost jobs and the economy in 2010-11.

Mr Swinney said 5,000 jobs had been created in Scotland by the acceleration of about £350m for capital projects adding the jobs would be lost next year.

Labour's finance spokesman David Whitton said there would be an additional £23m in funding for the Scottish government for the next financial year.
