Overseas visits: 13-19 April 2008, to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), with the All-Party Parliamentary Group on the Great Lakes Region and Genocide Prevention as a guest of the British Embassy in the DRC and the Government of the DRC. The cost of my flights, internal travel and accommodation were borne by Christian Aid, International Alert and the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development (CAFOD). (Registered 21 July 2008) 11-13 July 2008, to Canada, to attend Pugwash Conference and present a paper at an event organised by the Parliamentary Network for Non Proliferation and Disarmament. The organisation paid for my return flights to Halifax/Nova Scotia and three nights in a local hotel. (Registered 28 May 2009) 2-5 May 2009, to New York, to attend the preparatory committee for the Nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty at the UN Headquarters, on behalf of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) of which I am Vice-Chair, and as Chair of the CND Parliamentary Group.
