Draft General Register Office order

Finance Minister Sammy Wilson tabled a motion on a draft General Register Office (Fees) Order (Northern Ireland) 2012, on 11 December 2012.

The order will provide for the increase of various fees payable under the Births and Deaths Registration (Northern Ireland) Order 1976 relating to searches in registers, the provision of certificates and the changing of names.

It also provides for the increase of various fees payable under the Marriage (Northern Ireland) Order 2003 and the Civil Partnership Act 2004.

Mr Wilson said fees should be borne by the parties requesting the certificates, not by the public purse.

The motion passed on an oral vote.
