Jobseeker's Allowance regulations

MLAs voted to allow members of the reserve armed forces to retain their Jobseeker's Allowance when they complete their mandatory 15-day training, on 3 December 2012.

Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland said members would be treated as available and actively seeking employment during this period.

He added that members of the lifeboat, and fire and rescue services, and others engaged in emergency duties, also had to complete training but this usually took place at weekends and therefore had "no adverse" effect on Jobseeker's Allowance.

Social Development Committee chairman Alex Maskey said members were content to support this statutory rule.
