Construction contracts exclusion

The assembly agreed to provide greater payment and fair treatment safeguards for sub-contractors in the construction industry, on 23 October 2012.

The protection will come as a result of the passing of the Construction Contracts Exclusion Order (Northern Ireland) 2012.

The DUP's Paul Girvan said the change "offered a common sense approach" and was "simply closing a loophole".

Finance Minister Sammy Wilson said he wanted to highlight his "commitment to improving payment practices".

"Given the importance of the construction industry, it is important that we keep the supply healthy and that payments are made on a regular basis, " he said.
