NSMC Meeting in Transport: Road safety issues

The Minister of the Environment reported back to the Assembly on a recent meeting of the North South Ministerial Council (NSMC) on road safety matters, on 16 October 2012.

Alex Attwood prefaced his remarks by extending his condolences to the family of the victim of a road accident who had died a matter of hours earlier.

The meeting considered the mutual recognition of penalty points on both part of the island, the reduction of drink-drive limits and co-operation on EU tachograph rules.

The minister was asked about the proposed proposed Narrow Water bridge, which would link counties Down and Louth.

"We are in touching distance of having a bridge by 2015" he said.

"I think we all have to put our shoulder to the wheel and get this over the line," he said.
