Question Time: Environment and Enterprise

Environment Minister Alex Attwood told MLAs he intended to bring a road traffic bill to the assembly before Christmas, on 1 October 2012.

The bill would introduce a reduced blood alcohol limit for drivers, aNd changes to driver training.

In reply to a question from Sinn Fein's Cathal Boylan, the minister said he aimed to introduce legislation on the recognition of penalty points across both parts of Ireland in the 2013 - 2014 session.

Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster was asked about the recent announcement of job losses at FG Wilson engineering, part of the Caterpillar group.

Stewart Dickson of Alliance wanted to know more about the minister's meeting with Caterpillar senior management.

Mrs Foster said they had explored a number of different opportunities to mitigate the effects of the job losses.

She explained that Invest Northern Ireland was working with Caterpillar to identify local suppliers that might also be affected.
